VOLUNTEERING IN TANZANIA
Volunteer Abroad through us and our main idea behind our Fursa Tanzania Projects are to create placements for volunteers in fields, where they actually have experience and knowledge and where they can help improve the lives of others as well as gaining both personal and professional expertise. During the last couple of years we have seen a bad circle of volunteer abroad organizations where young and inexperienced volunteers are being sent to placements – particularly hospitals – where they have no expertise or they are being sent to placements, that in some cases do more harm than good in Volunteer abroad to the locals. We need to break this bad circle and this is the reason, If you wish to volunteer abroad through us we require our volunteers to be enrolled in an education, that fits the description of the work placements in order to volunteer there. There some of our projects will require you only to be in the right age in order to apply for it. We hope, that this can be a step in the right direction. All in all, we are trying our best to aim the right people with the proper knowledge to the right places, where the help is wanted and needed!
You should expect the unexpected, be open minded, adaptable, flexible, self motivated and enthusiastic. We believe that Volunteer aboard then these are probably the qualities that made you contact Fursa Projects in the first place. Please know that this isn’t a holiday or a guided tour. It is designed for you to have a unique experience to learn, make new friends and also make a difference with your volunteer abroad work. Also you can do your Internship here in Tanzania.
Usually most of our programs are open to join through out the year But there is some of them example Schools, where the children have a few set holidays during the school year. Usually they have a month of vacation in December, a 2 weeks break in April/March for Easter, about a month of vacation in July and again a 2 weeks break around October/November. Therefore, it might not be the best idea to plan a work period beginning in the 1st of December. Recommended would be to begin a work period in January or August – that way it will not interfere with the longer holidays of the children. We will recommend that you arrive to Tanzania by the end of the week so that you have the weekend to settle in and get comfortable in the house and area before beginning your work the following Monday. Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport(JRO), You will have access to ‘Swahili’ classes twice a week which will be good for you to communicate with the locals at your projects or around downtown.
During your stay you will be accommodated in the vibrant and most friendly hostel in Arusha, Tribe Nomads.
This is one of the biggest and popular hostel in Arusha which can accommodate up to 40 people ay once in shared dorm style rooms. We have female, male and mixed rooms available, which are all facing a common courtyard with couches, pillows and a daytime bed for chilling during the warm afternoons in Arusha. The common area is also where our guests, both volunteers and travellers, will come together and enjoy their meals. In the house, breakfast, and dinner is all included in the prices and is eaten together in the courtyard as our traditional of the house. We find these times to be a good possibility for our guests to share experiences and ideas and even to plan future trips together.
The bathrooms in the house are all shared, which means that the rooms don’t have individual bathrooms. The bathrooms are located at the end of the courtyard and consists of bathroom booths with both shower and toilets. And compared to many other Tanzanian accommodations, we always have warm showers to offer!
In case that you think that’s it! well we try our best to make everyone who stay with us feel like they’re at home (especially for our volunteers who are coming back from long working days) then you will need to be a place with relax spirit, well apart from the nicest courtyard you could hangout also you can be outside Tribe Nomads where you can find the most amazing garden you can find in Arusha, This is the place for a nice river view, the bar, fire place, movie nights and more, Also we have just launch our huge kitchen(If your home sick), where you will be able to sometimes get to make some of your own food in the oven (like pizza, etc) and apart from that you will get some cooking classes where you will learn how to make the African food we serve in the house by yourself!
